In The Beginning

The early history of the Black Merx is a little patchy. However we do know that the original founder of our clan was MX_Dragon and that it was originally a Mercantile (trading) clan. After a while due to harrassment from both the pirate clans and the law an alliance was formed between the MX and the Kadaks which survived for a while before the clan dissolved due to issues with the current mod meaning lengthy periods of downtime and personal issues.

From The Ashes

Eventually, the clan was reformed by MX_Kaos (later MX_Azriel) and redesignated as a mercenary clan due to Kaos's previous clan, the Shin-Ra, changing from Mercenary to Naval (good guys). The newly formed MX was allied to all the 'good' clans at the time, Shin-Ra, Sirius Rangers etc. Shortly after this, for reasons that change depending on who tells the story, a war started betwen the Shin-Ra and the MX. A war caused in part by Reaver Kingpin (MadBaronHaHa) and K7 (Seven). This is the point where the history becomes a lot clearer as it can be written from personal memory rather than the memory of others. Counter_Insurgency and Fetz joined the MX in rapid succession and after a few brief skirmishes with the Shin-Ra,(both in the forums and on the game) toward the end of the hostilities, we settled down to a period of building and growth alongside other notable members such as MX_Belthazar, MX_Duke and MX_Spirit.

Soon all was again peaceful (apart from a few minor attempts to disrupt the flow of traffic in Manhattan space). MX_Kaos/Azriel announced his intention to depart and after the leader spot bounced around the clan a couple of times MX_Fetz was appointed leader (or in his words 'Your Lord and Master', shortly before getting shot at). Showing a lack of judgement amazing for one in command he appointed as his second MX_Counter_Insurgency who also held the role of Diplomatic Relations Officer. He quickly recruited a new member, MX_Spartan and gave him the role of recruitment officer, a role he took so seriously he started recruiting all his former clan members (REN) the most notable member being MX_Cloudane This lead to yet another conflict both on and off the server.

Exploring New Ground

Due to various reasons including unhappiness with new mods, ADD and simply wanting something new to do occasionally. We found ourselves playing less and less Freelancer and quickly realised that we enjoyed each others company in many other games. A decision was made to repackage ourselves as a Multi-Gaming Community. The purchase of a 50 man Ventrilo server and the Domain name (Thanks Duke) sealed the deal and the MX started playing a wide assortment of games. Counter Strike:Source, Day of Defeat:Source, Silkroad, World of Warcraft, Silent Hunter 3 and 4, Battlefield 2142, the Command and Conquer series, Hero Online, Guild Wars and many, many others. We still visit Freelancer from time to time and even though the Asylum 51 server is no more we play alongside the old A51 crowd on the North Quadrant server.
